Samsung Exynos 2200 Chipset Launched: Features and Performance
Following an inexplicable delay last week, Samsung Electronics on Wednesday revealed the Exynos 2200. The most notable element of this high-end mobile CPU is the AMD RDNA 2-based Xclipse GPU.

Samsung earlier schedule was to launch the Exynos 2200 Chip but the schedule was interrupted for some unknown reasons. The Technology company couldn't proceed with the planned launch.

The Exynos 2200 features a 1+3+4 layout that starts with an Arm Cortex X2 "flagship" core. This is followed by three Cortex-A710 "big" cores that are "performance and efficiency balanced," while four power-efficient Cortex-A510 "little" cores finish out the CPU. Like Qualcomm’s rival chip, these ARMv9 cores are manufactured using 4nm technology.

Meanwhile, the "Xclipse GPU" employs AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture as a "backbone" to provide hardware-accelerated ray tracing (RT) and variable rate shading (VRS) to mobile gaming.

Ray tracing is a groundbreaking method that precisely models how light physically behaves in the real world. Ray tracing generates realistic lighting effects for visually produced environments by estimating the velocity and colour characteristics of light beams as they bounce off the surface.

Variable-rate shading is a method that reduces the GPU burden by allowing developers to apply a reduced shading rate in locations where overall quality will not be compromised. From Fluency

Going further, the technology innovation company explains the GPU branding as such:

Xclipse is the combination of the "X" that signifies Exynos and the term "eclipse". Like an eclipse, the Xclipse GPU will bring an end to the old age of mobile gaming and signal the start of an exciting new chapter.

Elsewhere, the business promises an enhanced neural processing unit (NPU) that has double the performance of its predecessor for AI and more parallel computations. The ISP (image signal processor) supports up to 200 MP sensors and 4K HDR or 8K quality video, as well as:

- Up to 108 MP in single camera mode.
- In dual camera mode, you can get up to 64+36 MP.
- Up to seven independent image sensors can be driven simultaneously for sophisticated multi-camera setups.
- It decodes films up to 4K at 240fps or 8K at 60fps.
- It encodes movies up to 4K at 120fps or 8K at 30fps.

The Exynos 2200 contains a powerful multi-format codec (MFC) that combines an AV1 decoder, which Qualcomm currently doesn’t provide.

The sophisticated display solution incorporates HDR10+, bringing greater dynamic range and depth to the picture and enabling refresh rates of up to 144Hz for a more responsive and smoother transitional experience whether navigating or playing games.

There’s also a 3GPP Release 16 5G modem that covers sub-6GHz and mmWave bands for speeds up to 10Gbps. In terms of security,

Safeguarding the Exynos 2200 comes with an Integrated Secure Element (iSE) to store private cryptographic keys as well as to play a role as RoT (Root of Trust). Also, an inline encryption HW for UFS and DRAM has been enhanced to have user data encryption safely shared only within the secure domain.

According to Samsung, mass production of the Exynos 2200 chip is currently ongoing.
