Amazon utilised the Super Bowl to debut a teaser trailer for their new television series "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," based on J.R.R. Tolkien's novels. The series will add to the mythos of the franchise, taking place decades before the events of "The Hobbit." The initial film does not offer much narrative, concentrating instead on landscapes from the show's setting. The message to fans, though, is clear: prepare to return to Middle Earth.

Patrick McKay and John D. Payne directed "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," which stars Peter Mullan, Benjamin Walker, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson.

"Prime Video's' 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' brings the legendary stories of Middle Earth's Second Age to screens for the very first time." -The official description.

This epic drama is set over a thousand years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit and 'The Lord of the Rings,' and will transport viewers to a time when great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the thinnest of threads, and the greatest villain ever to emerge from Tolkien's pen threatened to engulf the entire world in darkness.

The series begins in a period of relative calm and follows an ensemble cast of people, both known and new, as they face the long-feared return of evil to Middle-earth. These countries and personalities will carve out legacies that will live on long after they are gone, from the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the gorgeous woodlands of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the stunning island kingdom of Numenor, to the furthest ends of the globe.

However, you can start watching "The Lord of the Rings: A New Hope" on Amazon Prime on September 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The teaser trailer may be seen below:

The production cost of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is predicted to be the highest ever for a television programme.

Other Televison Shows Rolling

At the same time that "The Expanse" is returning and "Blade Runner 2099" is about to premiere, Amazon Prime is increasing its focus on genre programs. "Lord of the Rings" must be a priority for the corporation if it is to dominate the streaming battles in the sci-fi and fantasy genres.

An ensemble cast of characters, some recognisable, others not so familiar, face the long-feared return of evil to Middle-earth in the series' first episode. Many places and people in Middle-earth will live on long after their deaths, whether it be in the misty mountains, Lindon's gorgeous woods, or in the stunning island kingdom of Numenor. These places and people will leave lasting legacies.

Amazon is taking a huge risk with this series since it is their first foray into generating original content. As part of its $250 million agreement to acquire the television rights to the popular fantasy series, the tech corporation committed to a five-season commitment to the programme.
