Facebook Restricts Russia From Engaging In Advertisement Campagn On the Platform
Reuters reports that Facebook is preventing state-run Russian media groups from advertising and selling content on the social platform given the current war in Ukraine.

Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook's director of security policy, stated on Twitter, "We are now blocking Russian state media from running advertising or monetizing on our platform anywhere in the world." “These adjustments have already started rolling out and will continue over the weekend.” He also added that Facebook would continue to apply labels to “additional Russian state media,” a move the site initiated for all state-controlled media outlets in 2020.

“We are actively following the situation in Ukraine and will keep disclosing efforts we’re making to safeguard individuals on our platform,” - Gleicher stated

Facebook has now formed a Special Operations Centre to assist the network monitor and reacting to the unfolding violence. It also handed out a “one-click tool” in Ukraine that allows users to lock their accounts, prohibiting anybody except friends from reading their posts, pictures, and stories. However, Facebook also released the same option during the turmoil in Afghanistan last August.

Meanwhile, Russia already partly limited access to Facebook in the nation, with the Russian government saying the network “restricted” four accounts affiliated with Russian media outlets. The country’s electronics and communications authorities ordered the social network to halt fact-checking and labelling information from state-owned media, but Facebook refused to comply.
