According to a tweet on Twitter by the technology company, on Wednesday, February 9, Samsung will have its first "Unpacked" event of the year. The South Korean giant is expected to announce new flagship smartphones that will compete with Apple's iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models, which were released in September.

The tweet announcing the event schedule adds: "Join us as we break the rules to establish the epic standard." An image contained in the package refers to the S22, which is the next-generation gadget that will most likely be released. The YouTube video from Samsung also discusses breaking "through the darkness," implying camera enhancements.

Samsung's Galaxy S22 series is rumoured to have three smartphones in sizes comparable to the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 small, 6.1-inch iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max. Samsung is developing a 6.1-inch S22, a 6.5-inch S22 Plus, and a 6.8-inch S22 Ultra smartphone.

Several leaks, speculations, and mockups have given us a glimpse of what we may anticipate from Samsung's newest handsets. The two smaller smartphones will have rounded sides and triple-lens cameras, while the high-end flagship will have a boxier shape akin to the Galaxy Note, as well as a built-in S-Pen holder and a four-lens camera arrangement.

The expected flagship lineup will include the Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus and S22 Ultra Model.

The improvements from Samsung are believed to be minimal, but the two more affordable handsets will include improved 50-megapixel primary cameras as well as ultra-wide and telephoto lenses. Apple is expected to include 48-megapixel cameras in the iPhone 14 Pro models, although as of today, Apple's iPhone 13 camera lenses are 12 megapixels.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra may include a 108-megapixel primary camera with a Super Clear lens for decreased glare and reflections, as well as an ultra-wide lens, a telephoto lens, and a periscope lens for zoomed-in images. Apple is working on periscope lens technology, but speculation claims it won't be available on the iPhone until 2023.

New hole-punch camera designs, as well as new body colours and performance enhancements, are planned for the S22 lineup's front display. When February 9 arrives, we'll hear more about how Samsung's new flagship smartphones compare against Apple's iPhone 13 handsets.
