OnePlus's Unified OS Could Be Labelled As H₂OOS
In a bid to further its Oppo-fiction strategy, OnePlus has said that it intends to replace OxygenOS 12 with a new unified operating system based on ColorOS, beginning with the most recent (and unpopular) OxygenOS 12 upgrade that was released last week. Although OxygenOS and ColorOS have a lot of code in common, they still have unique names, and who knows what the OnePlus 10 series may bring to the US? A trademark application might be a sign of upcoming change, or it could just be a reorganisation.
According to leaker Mukul Sharma on Gizmochina and also verified by SmarttechVillas OnePlus has registered a new trademark in China for H2OOS. Although, OnePlus already had this trademark back in 2015. Despite the increased interest and a new filing, the name itself might be a sign that the company intends to use it for anything.
To get the moniker, the chemical symbols used in HydrogenOS, the previous skin of OnePlus phones in China before ColorOS took its place, and OxygenOS seem to have been combined. ColorOS is heavily integrated into OnePlus' Android 12 version, which is being sent out to the OnePlus 9 under the previous moniker. When the OnePlus 10 series arrived in the US, the firm may decide to change this, or the true "merger" may still be some time away, or maybe this is a plan for a future upgrade. Perhaps nothing has changed, and OnePlus is just renewing its trademark application for some unrelated purpose.

OxygenOS was promised by Pete Lau in June 2021 when OnePlus and Oppo announced their closer cooperation, and OnePlus devices would still run it in the future. The OxygenOS and ColorOS merger and the creation of a new unified operating system for both firms' devices were revealed just a few months later, with the moniker Oxygen OS remaining mostly unchanged. ColorOS's "stable and extensive features" and OxygenOS's "quick, smooth, burdenless" experience were promised to users as part of the merger. Also revealed was that OnePlus' skin will keep its distinct design in comparison to ColorOS despite the merger.
The reality, on the other hand, has been very different. No one knows whether the Android 12-based Oxygen OS 12 upgrade constituted this software merger (albeit it contains some ColorOS software), but this new version of Oxygen OS 12 was a complete nightmare for the phones in the new 9 series. The skin resembles Oppo's ColorOS with a few small tweaks, but it doesn't give the same type of experience that OxygenOS was previously famous for.
As a result of the first release's flaws, the firm finally had to take it down. After that, it released two more releases with a slew of bug patches, although feedback from users on forums like OnePlus's suggests that some issues remain. A better customer experience is what the organisation should strive towards.
