India Looks To Develop Own Mobile Operating System
India Looks To Develop Its Own Mobile Operating System (Indus)

According to Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the Indian government intends to develop a strategy that will enable the industry to create an aboriginal operating system that is similar to but will take a foothold as an alternative to Google's Android and Apple's iOS.

The Indian economy is one of those that has begun to look for areas where import substitution might be possible. The concept itself is not harmful; the country seeks to provide itself with high-tech production, as well as today's and tomorrow's technologies. Any ideas about import substitution are met with great interest and enthusiasm by the Government of India.

There are already several companies in India that manufacture and assemble electronics. The task at hand now is to develop their own operating system to compete with iOS and Android.

According to Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the market is currently dominated by two operating systems that drive the hardware ecosystem – Google's Android and Apple's iOS. "There isn't a third. As a result, the Ministry and the Government of India are very interested in developing a new operating system for mobile phones. We converse with people. "Policies are being developed for this," Chandrasekhar said. There is a search for a startup and individuals who can assist India in developing its own operating system.

"It is critical to have specific goals. "Once we have clear goals and what we need to achieve, all policies and actions will be consistent with it," Chandrasekhar said.

As per the Indiatimes report, the country wishes to significantly increase its domestic electronics production. As a result, they plan to increase smart device production to $300 billion in 2026, up from $75 billion now. However, if India intends to develop its own operating system, it will require developers who are interested in writing software for it.

To do this, you'll need a large number of devices with proprietary operating systems, or you'll need to modify your OS so that it can run the same Android apps. And what is the point of having your own operating system if all users end up with the same Android?
